MILAN DESIGN WEEK: DAY 3 HIGHLIGHTS
Category: Photography
1- Jil Sander x Apartamento — Reference Library
Via Beltrami 5 — until 26 April
Another studioutte installation, and another reason to slow down. Sixty books, each chosen by a different creative — writers, architects, filmmakers, designers — presented under chrome reading lamps whose warm light reflects off a mirrored wall. Visitors receive white gloves upon entry: a small ritual that changes how you handle an object, and how much attention you give it. In an age of skimming, Reference Library is a quiet act of resistance. One of the most thoughtful concepts of the week.
2- Elie Saab Maison — The Milanese House
Via Pietro Mascagni 2 — until 26 April
An immersive apartment that blends Mediterranean warmth with Milanese restraint, filtered through the stillness of 1970s Italian cinema. Creative director Carlo Colombo translates Elie Saab’s aesthetic into something lived-in and cinematic — the Mascagni sofa, the Onda armchair, and a collaboration with Impatia, including a reimagined billiard table in dark bronze, beige, olive, and Patagonia marble. One room in particular stopped me: perfect ambient music, pine-scented candle, green sofas, and an architectural fridge. Everything is quietly saying stay.
3- Zara — CALMA
Viale Giorgio Byron 2 — until 26 April
Inside a neoclassical building in Parco Sempione — originally designed for Napoleon — Zara and Crosby Studios have reimagined the ancient Roman thermal bath as a contemporary refuge. Threshold, corridor, central hall, loggia: each space modulated by light, reflection, and sound. Mirror arches extend the architecture, metallic surfaces soften the light, and a hushed acoustic landscape layers classical Italian compositions with ambient voices. Structured for stillness. Exactly what its name promises.
